A LITTLE Q&A WITH ALYSSA
Q. What is your design inspiration?
The women who wear our dresses…I want every bride to feel like the most beautiful version of herself. This leads me to a less-is-more approach to design so that a gown compliments the bride and lets her shine.
Q. Tell me two little known facts about you.
I’m self-taught and have no formal training (graduated with a degree in Accounting) I’m equal parts determined and stubborn – in middle school, I joined the wrestling team to prove my older brother wrong (he was a wrestler and didn’t think I could handle it)
Q. Describe your personal style.
Much like my approach to design – less is more. I gravitate towards minimal and tailored pieces that flatter the figure in neutral colors.
Q. What is your favorite article of clothing.
A black blazer I turned into a dress – it’s timeless and conservative, yet subtly sexy – my favorite combination.
Q. Favorite vacation spot.
I love discovering new places and try to not do too many repeat trips – looking forward to crossing more countries off my bucket list.
Q. When did you know that you were going to design bridal?
When I made my own wedding dress. I was a CPA working at Ernst & Young when I got engaged and couldn’t find the perfect dress. After trying on close to 200 dresses, I decided to take matters into my own hands (quite literally) and make my own dress. Through that experience, I realized my love of taking something from concept to creation and started Alyssa Kristin as a result.
Q. Who is your style icon?
Audrey Hepburn – she exudes style and grace.
Q. If you could dress any celebrity, who would it be?
Chrissy Teigen – I love how much self-love she has and how she doesn’t take herself too seriously. If you don’t watch her insta-stories, you should (not to mention John Legend makes frequent appearances – those two are #couplegoals).
Q. What is the last great book that you read?
Girl, wash your face. I’m a major sucker for easy, motivational books.
Q. Any advice for brides?
It’s your day – relax, enjoy and don’t sweat the small stuff!
