In honor of Earth Day 2015, we just wanted to touch on a few easy ways that your wedding can make the planet smile a little brighter. There are obvious things like choosing a wedding dress designer that is only Fair Trade and Eco-Friendly, like our very own Celia Grace, but here are 3 things that you may not have thought about. These small tokens of kindness will carry on when your perfect wedding day is over.
Give your guests yummy edible favors. Who doesn’t love a tasty treat?! Let’s face it, people can only take home and savor so many wedding favors in a lifetime, so why not give out something they can get immediate pleasure out of that never goes to waste. Guests who traveled in for the wedding will be especially appreciative to add to the luggage. Another trending idea is to donate to a charity in your guests’ name. Spreading good karma around.
Donate all leftovers to anyone but the garbage can. Once the party is over and the tables need clearing, what happens to all the beautiful flowers and centerpieces left behind? The venue staff will generally toss them. Why not have your bridesmaids or wedding planner drop them off at a local hospital or nursing home to brighten someone else’s tomorrow? I’ll bet your smiling just thinking of it. If you have a buffet menu for the guests, you can also see if you can donate all the leftovers to a local shelter.
Look for an Eco-friendly venue. Hotels and event spaces with LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certifications and Energy Star ratings are now readily available and are easily searchable. Look for a ceremony and reception venue that takes sustainability seriously. You will know right away, just by talking with them, how seriously they feel about it. Going green is trending and so many event spaces are following suite quickly.
