The start of November always makes me excited as with the change of the season brings the Christmas lights, holiday music, pie (Yum!), and family gatherings! This year with my son learning to talk and really walking (well running!) around, it makes this holiday season even more magical. But I at times feel helpless and guilty because as my son has a warm bed, his parents, his health and his home, so many children have gone through the dangerous and torturous border crossing, detention and asylum-seeking protocols- they are lacking the support, love, and kindness they need and deserve.

I was the firstborn in this country, my parents immigrated when they were younger with my grandparents, my grandfather actually has a letter from JFK’s office about his request to come to the US. And it makes me heartsick to know that so many families who are trying to find a better life from threat and possible death are being treated so inhumanely.

This holiday season my wish is that every child is with their loved ones, in a warm bed, healthy and happy.

Miles4Migrants is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity, dedicated to using donated frequent flyer miles, points, and money for the relocation of those displaced by war, persecution, politics and more, to start a new beginning in a new home. Our goal is to help families join their loved ones as quickly as possible and without undue financial hardship.
The mission of the Minority Humanitarian Foundation is to provide a humanitarian response to the issues facing asylum-seekers and refugees on a global scale. MHF believes that all humans should be treated with dignity and respect, despite the country of origin. Through on-the-ground relief efforts, health services, housing, transportation services, and legal representation we work to ensure the health and safety of the people we work with. Then through education and job placement, we work to ensure their success in a new country.
Border Kindness provides migrants, refugees, and the displaced with comprehensive services that include food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. Our programs and interventions are designed to identify, protect and nurture the most vulnerable – including women, children, elderly and families.  Border Kindness believes everyone should have the opportunity to live free of pain, hunger, intimidation, and fear.
We believe everyone is our neighbor.
